For those of you out there who might be going back and forth between camcorders, I think this one takes the cake! The new hybrid model of Hitachi’s DZ-BD10HA camcorder seems to have it all with a choice of 3 HD formats (Blu Ray, HDD SDHC), and you can easily move from one to the other. Overall it’s smaller in size than the previous version, about 20%, I think, and you get more recording time. You can record video on an SDHC memory card instead of turning on the computer and you can transfer HD video from the SDHC card or hard drive to a Blu-ray disc, or vice versa, right on the camera. I know there are still a lot of people out there who don’t have Blu ray yet, but this version has a transcoding features that lets you transfer HD videos to standard definition DVD so that you can still share video with the non-Blu rayers.

Specs include: 7 Mega Pixel 1/2.7″ CMOS Image Sensor, 8cm BD-RE/DVD Drive. 30 GB HDD (that’s about 4.5 hours of 1920×1080 or almost twice that of 1440×1080). Picture quality: High Res Image Processing LSI (analyzes that huge amount of data from the 7 Mega Pixel CMOS image sensor and reduces noise and enhances color. There’s face detection, and photo capture which let’s you take any image from your video and turn them into digital still photos. Pretty cool, I took some stills from a Europe trip and uploaded them to facebook in just minutes!

I wasn’t looking to spend a ton of money on a camcorder, but the hitachi website (www.hitachibd.com) had a promo discount code that I’m pretty sure still works. Just use “SAVEBIG” and you get 20% off, not a bad deal! I’m definitely satisfied with my purchase and I think you will be too.
